So back in September, my class and I started a cross-country unit for gym. I go to a small school called Turnberry Central in Wingham, On. Being a Gr. 8 male student, I had to run up to 2.5km for the unit. So we ran each day, going up in small increments and writing the date, time and distance it took us to do it. Then a month after doing this, we are putting it to use for new math and L.A. project…
After running and collecting all of my data, I calculated the pace for each of my times. Then I made a spreadsheet and I copied all of my data into it, and calculated total distance, median, mode and average for my pace and distance.
There are goals that I have made this year to improve my physical fitness. One goal is to have an extra 30 minutes of physical activity everyday at home. I can achieve this because I play hockey, so that counts for some days. Also, I can play sports like baseball outside or mini sticks inside with my brothers to help achieve it. Another goal I made is to stretch out before every hockey game or sports activity, so I won’t hurt myself or pull something while I play. It will also help to get me loose for every game. Making goals can be an easy way to help you achieve greater things.
Running cross-country this year built up my pace and endurance, and it also helped me build my self-esteem as a runner. It was actually a fun unit, and all of the practise helped me to achieve 6th place in the regionals. It was my best, and I was pretty happy. Cross-country is a pretty epic sport!
Ps.( The only downside was that gym is in the morning, so you would get the worst soaked feet! But, once you got into your second pair of socks [if you remembered to bring them], it wasn’t that bad!)
